GDP Home Version CD

Quick Start: Next; I accept the terms of the license agreement, Next; Next; Next; Next;  Finish.

  1. Place the Home Version CD into the CD-ROM drive. The installer automatically launches after a few seconds.
Note: If the install program does not launch automatically, from the Windows menu, click Start, Run. In the Run window, type x:\setup (replace "x:" with the letter for your CD-ROM drive, which is probably "d:"). Click OK.
  2. From the Welcome screen, click Next to continue.
  3. From the License Agreement, click I accept the terms of the license agreement; click Next.
  4. From the Select Destination Location screen, accept C:\GDPHOME; click Next.
  5. From the Select Student Data Location screen, accept Save student data on other media to store your work in a data directory on your computer's hard drive or on other removable media such as a USB drive; click Next.
  6. From the Select Student Data Path screen, accept C:\GDPDATA; click Next.
Note: Do not save your data on a floppy disk because your disk will fill up and a floppy drive is very slow; most students have a great deal of trouble deleting the appropriate files when the disk fills up.
  7. From the Install Complete screen, click Finish. An Irwin Keyboarding program group opens with this shortcut. Right-click the icon and send a shortcut to your Windows desktop.

Note: If you installed incorrectly and need to uninstall GDP, click here for steps.

Initial Log-On  Return to top of page
  1. Double-click on the GDP Home icon to launch the software; or in Windows, click Start, Programs, Irwin Keyboarding, GDP Home.

Note: If you are working at LACC in our labs, select ZIMMERLY - ONLINE  from the class drop-down list on the Welcome screen, and click New Student.

  1. Type your first name in the "First name" box and your last name in the "Last name" box in upper- and lowercase letters (NOT all CAPS and NOT all lowercase) being VERY CAREFUL to correct any typos before you click Save. Once you click Save, YOU CANNOT GO BACK LATER AND EDIT ANY ERRORS!! You will have to uninstall and reinstall GDP.

  1. In the Your e-mail address box, enter the EXACT e-mail address you entered in the Student Questionnaire you submitted to me. If you enter an incorrect e-mail address, you will not be able to upload your work later!!
  2. Type Keyboarding Online for your class.
Note: If you are working at LACC, type in a password and retype the password to confirm it. Write it down and remember it. Remember that the name, log-on password (on campus only), and password to upload data at home (Options, Personal Information, Password to upload data box) you used to log-on at the first location must be identical to the name, log-on password (on campus only), and password to upload data at home at the second location or this won't work.
  3. Click Save. GDP registers your information, and checks for Live Updates. If you are prompted that a live update is available, be sure to download it.
  4. The How To Online Tutorial starts. Click the numbered buttons at the bottom of the screen to complete the tutorial and click Exit when you're done.

Note: Under Full Editing, in Timed Writings, correcting errors on timings is your choice. If you correct errors on timings, your speed is decreased and your concentration might be broken. However, some students relax more during a timing when they know they can correct errors and therefore do better. Make your choice here based on your own skills and preferences.
