Skillbuilding and Document Processing Jobs
  • All work assigned for a particular week (skillbuilding, document processing jobs, practice and regular tests) is due no later than Sunday evening at the end of the week in which the work is assigned.
  • Up to 1% per week will be deducted from your final average for any late or missing skillbuilding or production jobs!! One of the biggest factors in your success will be turning in work on time.
  • Any document may be resubmitted
for a better grade. Don’t be
    discouraged by a low grade
     on your first try.
36
Production Jobs: Scoring Formatting and Proofreading
37
Production Jobs: Proofreading Viewer
38
Production Jobs: Proofreading Checks—5%
  • Proofreading checks begin about Week 8.
  • Five documents are designated as Proofreading Checks.
  • They must be proofread with zero scoring errors on the first scored attempt or one point will be deducted from your final grade average.
  • To make up a lost proofreading point, you may recreate the document and try again.

39
Practice Tests—15% and
On-Campus Tests—20%

  • Practice Tests. You will take these timed document processing practice tests at home periodically through the semester. They are very similar to the actual document processing test you will take when you come on campus and are evaluated for format and accuracy. The number of attempts does not count against you. Please see your assignment sheet for details.

Note: Never take an actual document processing test on campus until you have successfully completed the practice document processing tests!
  • On-Campus Tests. These document processing tests are timed and the document is evaluated for format and accuracy.  Tests are scheduled on campus periodically through the course with an instructional assistant unless I have approved another arrangement. Late penalties are enforced after a 1-week grace period. Only one attempt is allowed on these tests.

40
Practice Tests 15%
41
On-Campus Tests 20%
42
Technique Check
  • Up to 10% deduction will be taken for unsatisfactory technique.

Note: If you cannot type with acceptable technique, you cannot pass the course.
  • I will give you a Technique Check and watch you type to insure that you have learned to type by touch with correct fingering and technique. Technique checks will be scheduled on campus with me at LACC at the beginning of the semester unless I have approved another arrangement.
43
Typing Technique
  • You MUST use the correct fingers on all the keys and be able to type by touch (without looking) to pass keyboarding.
  • You DON’T need to type fast or be concerned with a few errors.
  • You DO need to type with acceptable technique on all the areas indicated on the Keyboarding Technique form.
  • You MUST keep your eyes on the copy, use correct finger reaches, and type with continuity and acceptable accuracy in order to pass keyboarding.
44

45
Timed Writings—50%
  • You will be given a series of 3' timed writings on campus at the end of the course.
  • The best two timed writings are averaged to determine your speed.
  • If your timed writings are not within the 3-error limit,
2.p.m. will be subtracted from the gwpm. (gross words per minute) for each error over the maximum number of errors allowed. For example, if your speed was 40 and your errors were 4, your nwpm. (net words per minute) would be 38.
  • Timed writings will be scheduled on campus at the end of the course unless I have approved another arrangement.
46
Extra Credit
  • Your grade may be raised as follows:
  • If you proofread any documents (other than designated Proofreading Checks) with zero errors on the first scored attempt, you will earn extra credit.
  • Complete extra skillbuilding.
  • Type extra documents if approved by me first.
