underlined and replaced with a hyperlink. GDP turns off the feature that
replaces Internet paths with hyperlinks, but you might work on a
computer in which this feature is on.

 | If you don't want a URL to be
converted to a hyperlink, click the Undo button or press Ctrl-Z
immediately after pressing the space bar.

Hyperlink from the shortcut menu. |

Memo
 Remember
to type your reference initials in this letter exactly the same way as you
typed them in Options, Personal Information, Your initials box. When
you type your reference initials and press Enter to move to the next line to
type the enclosure notation, Word might change the first initial of your
reference initials to uppercase. Word's "AutoCorrect" feature is trying to
make sure that the first word in a new line is capitalized. You can either
correct the capitalization when you're done; or as soon as you notice the
auto correction, click the Undo button or press Ctrl-Z. If you want to
permanently stop AutoCorrect, in Word click Tools, AutoCorrect Options,
and uncheck all the boxes as shown in the screen shot at the right. |
Practice Test,
Lesson 35, Correspondence 35-19
Block-Style Letter and Envelope
25 minutes |
 |
The goal on any practice test is to have
zero scoring errors and zero formatting errors on the first created, scored
attempt within the time limit just as you will be required to do when you
come on campus for your actual test.
If you edit the document instead of recreating it, I will not even look at
that attempt, so don’t waste your valuable time editing.
I only grade the first scored attempt. In other words, YOU MAY NOT EDIT A
PRACTICE TEST! If you exit and find you had any errors, click Create . . .
(not Edit . . .) and try it again. You may try to recreate a practice test
as many times as you want to and you should. This is how you prepare
yourself for a test in which you get one attempt only.
Goal: Zero scoring errors and zero
formatting errors on the first attempt in 25 minutes maximum.
This document has been designated as a
practice test because it is very similar to the actual document processing
test you will take when you come on campus next week.
 Remember
to type your reference initials in this letter exactly the same way as you
typed them in Options, Personal Information, Your initials box. When
you type your reference initials and press Enter to move to the next line to
type the enclosure notation, Word might change the first initial of your
reference initials to uppercase.
 | Click the Create Correspondence 35-19
button and type this document correcting all typos and formatting errors.
Remember to type an envelope and add it to the document. |
 | If you exit and find you had any
errors, click Create . . . (not Edit . . .) and try it
again. |
 | After you exit and score your document
with zero errors, click Portfolio. |
 | In the Student Portfolio window, click
the desired lesson and exercise, and click the View Text button. |
 | In the report header, look at Time
in MS Word to see how much time you spent working on the exercise. The
elapsed time begins when you click the Create or Edit button and ends when
you click GDP, Return to GDP. |
Note: You will need to know
proofreaders' marks to be prepared for next week's test, which is a rough
draft letter with proofreaders' marks. Review 27E, Basic Proofreaders'
Marks, pp. 68-69, and 29E, More Proofreaders' Marks, p. 76. You can also
look up these marks in GDP's online Reference Manual, Contents tab,
Proofreaders' Marks. Note: Remember—when you come in for
testing next week, you will have only one attempt on any
document and it must be perfect—no typos and no formatting errors and it
must be completed within the time limit. |
