GDP Home Version Maintenance Release Download.

v. 1.0.0.125_November_11_2003You absolutely must install and use only the current version of GDP dated November 11, 2003!! Check the GDP CD label on the disk that is included with your book for this date. If you see any other date, you should exchange the CD or download the latest version of GDP if you have either a cable modem or DSL. If you have already installed GDP, click Help, About, to see the version date and number. The most recent version of GDP is v. 1.0.0.125, dated November 11, 2003.

Download GDP

Go to http://glencoe.com/ps/keyboarding/homenotice.html to download the software. Click the GDP Student Software Download for Word 2000/2002/2003 (64.3 MB) hyperlink. The user name is home and the password is Kb2dH3. If this user name and password are no longer valid, call Software Support at 800-331-5094 (new), Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Eastern Time).

This file takes about 6 minutes to download with a cable modem but can take an hour or more to download if you have a slow connection. If you cannot download at home, bring in a writable CD and our Instructional Assistants will download for you.

If you can download, save the file as GD9Home125.exe, then click Open or double-click the file to open it and install it following the steps below. You can install the new version without uninstalling the old. However, if you wish to uninstall the old version, check FAQ 17.

GDP Home Version CD

(Summary: Next; Enable distance learning features, Next; Next; Save student data on other media, Next; Next; Finish.)

  1. Place the Home Version CD into the CD-ROM drive. The installer automatically launches after a few seconds.

Note: If the install program does not launch automatically, from the Windows menu, click Start, Run. In the Run window, type x:\setup (replace "x:" with the letter for your CD-ROM drive, which is probably "d:"). Click OK.

  2. From the Welcome screen, click Next to continue.
  3. From the Setup Type screen, select Enable distance learning features; click Next.

  4. From the Select Destination Location screen, accept the default destination directory C:\GD9-Home; click Next.

Note: If you are installing GDP for the second time you will see a Question dialog box that says, "Another version of this software already exits. Overwrite this version? Answer Yes.

  5. From the Select Student Data Location 1 screen, choose Save student data on other media to store your work in a data directory on your computer's hard drive or on other removable media such as a USB drive.

Note: I do NOT recommend that you save your data on a floppy disk because your disk will fill up and a floppy drive is very slow; most students have a great deal of trouble deleting the appropriate files when the disk fills up. The default directory if you do choose to save student data on a floppy disk is A:\GDPData.

  1. From the Select Student Data Location 2 screen, click Next to accept the default C:\GD9Data
  2. From the Install Complete screen, click Finish. A Glencoe Keyboarding program group opens with this icon. You should right-click the icon and send a shortcut to your Windows desktop.

Note: If you installed incorrectly and need to uninstall GDP, click here for steps.

The latest version of GDP defaults to Word 2003, but most of you will have Word 2002. For Word 2002, you must change the path here so it will launch correctly. Under Word Processor, click Use Microsoft Word 2002. Browse to Word 2002: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\WINWORD.EXE.

Note: If you don't see Use Microsoft Word 2003, you've installed an old version of GDP. Click here for directions to get the latest version.

Under Full Editing, uncheck in Drills! You never want to edit your skillbuilding drills! Using the backspace key during skillbuilding leads to poor technique—distraction from copy, looking at keys, looking at hands, etc.

bullet

Under Full Editing, in Timings, correcting errors on timings is your choice. If you correct errors on timings, your speed is decreased and your concentration might be broken. However, some students relax more during a timing when they know they can correct errors and therefore do better. Make your choice here based on your own skills and preferences.
