Lists at a Glance
Numbers or bullets may be used in
letters, memos, and reports to call attention to items in a list. If the
sequence of the items is important, use numbers rather than bullets.
 | Begin the number or bullet at the
paragraph point; that is, at the left margin for blocked paragraphs and
indented 0.5 inch for indented paragraphs. |
 | Insert 1 blank line before and after
the list.
Within the list, use the same spacing (single or double) as is used in
the rest of the document. |
 | For single-spaced documents, if all
items require no more than one line, single-space the items in the list.
If any item requires more than one line, single-space each item but
insert a blank line between each item. |
To format a list:
- Type the list unformatted.
- Select the items in the list.
- Apply the number or bullet feature.
- If necessary, use the Decrease
Indent or Increase Indent button in Microsoft Word to adjust
the position of the list.
The three bulleted and numbered lists
shown below are all formatted correctly.
