Hello Students,

My name is Charlene Morimoto.  I will be your "online professor" for CAOT 82, Word 2007 Online, which will be offered during the spring semester in February 2009. Microsoft Office Suite 2007 is a very popular and the most widely used set of integrated office software in the country.

This course introduces students to the word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software components of the Microsoft Office 2007 program; namely, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint 2007.  Approximately 3-4 weeks of the semester will be dedicated to each of these office suite programs.  Students wishing to work at home using their own computers must have this program installed.  Students who do not currently have this program installed should click on the FAQs button at the top of this page to learn how they can obtain a free trial version from microsoft.com and/or purchase the program at greatly discounted prices through a program sponsored by the California Community Colleges.

All enrolled students and students wishing to add this course should attend the following orientation meeting:

5:00-6:40 p.m.--Tuesday, February 17, 2009, Da Vinci Hall Room 202

Students who do not attend will be dropped as attendance is mandatory, not optional.  The information shared with you at this meeting will assure that we are all "on the same page" so that the course will be maximally beneficial  for us all.

Begin this course by completing these five steps:

1. Click the Course Outline button at the top of this page for general course information including the name of the textbook and needed supplies.  Purchase the textbook immediately, using the ISBN number shown in the Course Outline (assures you are purchasing the correct textbook), as well as a USB flash drive or disks.

2.  After you have enrolled, click here (or on the "Student Questionnaire" link at the top of this page) and fill out the Student Questionnaire. Submitting this questionnaire serves as your self-introduction and notification to me that you are enrolled.

3.  Next, click on the "FAQs" link at the top of this page.  Read all the information carefully, especially on the Etudes-NG (Easy to Use Distance Education Software-New Generation) course management platform and the section entitled "How do I get started?" If you are new to Etudes-NG, be sure to view the Etudes-NG Tour (the link is on the FAQs page as well as at the top of this page).

4.  Send me an email at morimocs@lacitycollege.edu apprising me of the fact that you have completed the  Student Questionnaire and the above steps and will attend the orientation meeting.

If this course is "closed" and you wish to add, contact David Coleman, David Janvelyan, or Linda Motonaga (instructional assistants in the Business/CAOT Department) at 323 953-4000 for a signed Add Permit. Be sure to submit it to Admissions anytime BEFORE Saturday, February 14, as a two-day processing time is required before your name appears in Etudes-NG.  All students are expected to have their textbooks and access the CAOT 82 Online course site in Etudes-NG on the first day of the semester (or by the orientation date for students who are adding).

5.  During the first week of the semester beginning February 9, read the Preface in your textbook (pages x-xxi).  The chapter entitled "Essential Introduction to Computers" (pages COM1-COM39) should be completed before the end of Week 2; a quiz on the information covered at the orientation meeting and on this chapter will be given before beginning Chapter 1, "Introduction to MS Windows" during Week 3.

I look forward to meeting you on February 17!

Best wishes for a successful semester!
