g.     Week 1 (back here to where we started!)

3.       Log-in to the GDP (Greg  Document Processing) keyboarding software under the "Morimoto 3" class.  If you are new to GDP (have never used this program before), please ask your instructor for an introductory tutorial.  If you are acquainted with the GDP program and used it for CAOT 1 and/or 2, please do log in as a new student in the Morimoto 3 class.  Write down the password you select just in case you forget it.  Go to Lesson 62 in GDP and do 62-A, B, and C.  Select five-minute timings, and take the five-minute timing in Lesson 62 twice  (photocopies supplied by your instructor).  Click on "Portfolio" and show your instructor the results.  You may then exit the GDP program.  Please return the Lesson 62 copy to your instructor.

4.    Launch MS Word from your desktop and do the word processing "My Goals" assignment (see front board for details).   Create a header containing your first and last name.  Proofread, spell check, and correct any errors in your document.  Save it in the "My Documents" folder on the "c:" drive of your computer.  Print a copy and bring it to your instructor.  After timed writing and Word skills have been evaluated to assure that you have the skills needed to be successful in this course, you are done for today.  Please use any remaining class time to purchase your textbook/supplies so that you will be fully equipped and ready to begin at the next class meeting.  See you Thursday!

Thursday, February 8, 2007

1.       Call roll; collect processed (stamped) Add Permits from students added on  Tuesday  and $5 printing fee.  Class folders/assignment sheets will be distributed.

2.       Log into the GDP "CAOT 1 2 3" program (but not the “distance education” version of GDP), selecting “Morimoto 3” as the class.  If your name does not appear in the drop-down list, click on "New Student" beneath the drop-down list and complete the form.  Record your password and place it in a safe location where it can easily be accessed by you (should you forget your password).

3.       Read the assignment sheet in your class folder and do the lessons and documents listed for today  (Lesson 61 ABCD, 63 ABCDEF, and Memo 63-60) following these guidelines:

a.     Sit all the way back in your chair so that your back is being supported by the chair back.

b.     Read the textbook directions (in the left margin) and any onscreen directions for all skill building exercises in GDP.  Generally, individual lines should be typed twice each before going on to the next line; a paragraph should be typed in entirety once, and then repeated once more.

c.     All timed writings should be typed at least twice but not more than four times in one sitting.  Always select "5-minute" timings, not "3-minute" timings.

d.     When you have completed the above work, ask your instructor to demonstrate how to do a portfolio report printout by specifying which lessons to include.  Portfolio report printouts of all skill building lessons completed during the week should be placed in your class folder and submitted to your instructor every Thursday (the second and last class meeting of the week).

e.     When word processing documents (letters, reports, etc.)  are assigned, they are due at the end of class.  Always close (exit) the GDP program before leaving the class room.

4.       Review memo format on page R-4 of your textbook; then go to Lesson 63 and do Memo 63-60.  Proofread and make corrections.  Your goal is to complete the memo with "zero" errors on the first attempt.  On your assignment sheet, circle "Proofread, Yes or No, accordingly.  If you have errors, reselect Memo 63-60 and make the needed corrections.

6.       Review the Homework Assignment sheet—Do the Word Processing Manual exercises listed to prepare for next week’s production work.

   Have a great weekend!
