1. Pick
up your folder as you enter the class room. If you arrive late, please
let your instructor know. The $5 printing fee should be paid by this
Thursday; it will help to keep our classroom printer supplied with ink
cartridges and paper throughout the semester. 2. Check your class assignment sheet for
today's assignments and complete them in the GDP program using your textbook: a. Go to Lesson 68 and complete
the sections assigned. Follow the instructions in the left margin of the textbook for each lesson
part. (Do not print the Portfolio report for this lesson (or any of the
other skill building lessons assigned for today); we will print on Thursday
after Thursday’s skill building assignments are completed.) b.
Go to Lesson 69 and complete the sections assigned. The plus (+)
sign attached to Section G on the assignment sheet means that it will be
checked for errors and scored. You must achieve zero errors on this
exercise before continuing on. c.
Do
Report 69-51, a magazine article, using the formatting
instructions contained in 69H on page 247 for a two-column report. Your
finished document should look similar in format to the example illustrated at
the top of page 248. If necessary, review the Proofreader’s Marks (page
R-14 in the Reference Section of your textbook or WP Manual). Proofread
your document CAREFULLY. Follow the usual procedure to save, score, and
review your document. Your goal: To create the document
with zero errors on the first attempt. If you are successful, circle
the “Yes” in the “Proofread” column on your assignment sheet. ☺ If not, circle “No” and go back to
edit your document until it is correct. L Print the document in
"Portfolio." You should have two printouts of this
document--one in Word and the other Place this printout in your folder. d.
Do Report 70-53,
meeting minutes, in Lesson 70. Use a two-column "open" table
(no border lines) format to create the minutes. Incorporate all the
changes indicated by the red proofreader's marks. If necessary, refer
to the proofreaders' marks on page R-14 of your Word Processing Manual.
Proofread carefully and save the file by clicking on GDP in the menu bar in
the usual manner. Circle “yes” or “no” under the Proofread column
on your folder. If necessary, edit your document to achieve zero
errors. Print in "Portfolio" (results in two printouts) and
place in your folder to submit to your instructor. e. Exit the GDP program and submit your folder
containing all completed word processing assignments. Thursday, February 22, 2007 1.
Your instructor will do
small group demonstrations on correct keyboarding technique during class
today. When you are called for the demonstration, please bring your
class folder with you. 2.
Pick up your folder as
usual, and remove and then review the
corrected printouts from your folder. Place them in a folder at
home. Be sure you understand any markings on your papers. 3.
Please pay the
printing fee to your instructor today if you have not already done so. Only those students who pay the fee
will be allowed to use the classroom printer and take
practice and class tests, so paying the fee now ensures you of that
opportunity. 4.
Today’s assignments: a.
Click here to access the CAOT Departmental
website and complete the Student Survey. (If you have already completed
and submitted this survey for another CAOT course, you need not do this
again. Skip down to (b) below.) When the survey prompts you for an email address, please key in the address
that you use most often. After completing the survey, don’t forget to
click on the SUBMIT FORM button. Print a copy of the
Form Confirmation page that appears and submit
it to your instructor. Your completion of this survey will assist
our department to better schedule classes at times that are convenient for
you, our students. b.
Complete Lesson 70, following
the directions in the left margin of the textbook for each section. c.
Please note: Today will be the last day we will practice our
proofreading skills to achieve "0" errors on the word processing
documents we create in GDP, so let's renew our efforts to meet this goal in
today's two documents. Beginning next Tuesday, we will no longer create our documents
inside the GDP program. We will exit GDP upon
completing the skill building portions of our lessons and launch MS Word from
the Windows Desktop. Consequently, we will no longer be able to rely
upon the scoring feature of GDP to identify and mark errors in our
documents. In addition, I will begin grading each word processing
assignment you submit. To achieve an "A" grade, an assignment
must be perfect in terms of accuracy and format, the same mailability
standard used in business today. c.
Go to Report 70-52
(agenda) in Lesson 70. Use the automatic “numbering” feature in
Word to create the agenda. Apply double-spacing (click on FORMAT; Paragraph; “Indents and Spacing” Tab;
“Spacing after,” and key in 12 pt. so that there is one blank line
between the numbered paragraphs). Your goal: To complete
this document with zero errors on the first attempt. If
so, circle the "yes" for proofreading. ☺If not, try harder in your next
document! d.
Next, go to Report 70-54 (a magazine article). Use the Word
"columns" feature demonstrated during the previous class
session. "Balance" the two columns by placing your insertion
point at the end of the document and inserting a "continuous"
section break (both columns should end horizontally even on the page (both
columns should be approximately the same length). Again, your
goal: To complete the magazine article with zero errors on the first
attempt. Circle either "yes" or "no" for
proofreading on your assignment sheet. If necessary, edit your document
to achieve zero errors. e.
Use the GDP "Portfolio" to print your word processing assignments
for today. f.
Because today is Thursday, click on
"Portfolio" in the GDP Menu Bar. Click on the Portofolio Filter button; in the “lesson range” box, key in
this week's skill building lessons--68, 69, 70--and click on OK.
Click on Print Report. Also print a portfolio report for
last week's lessons if you did not submit one last week. Add the
portfolio printouts to your class folder. g.
That’s it for today! Check your Homework Review sheet this weekend to
prepare for next week's assignments. See you Tuesday. HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!
