1.     Pickup your folder as usual, and remove and then review the corrected printouts from your folder. For homework, outside of class, edit any "unmailables" so that they are error free in terms of format and text.  Print a copy, staple it to the old "unmailable" printout in the upper left corner, and submit for regrading at the beginning of the next class meeting (at 12:45 p.m.).

2.    If you intend to remain in this course and print your assignments during class, please pay the $5 printing fee before Thursday's test.

3.     Today’s assignments:  Timed writings and Practice Test 1:

a.     Do Lesson 80 ABCD in GDP.   You may repeat “D” up to three more times until we begin Practice Test 1.

b.      At approximately 1:10 p.m., we will begin Practice Test 1. Remain in GDP and click on the “Tests Only” radio button above the Lesson number selection box; then click on the down arrow to find Test 4Do not begin the test until the entire class is ready to begin together.

c.       When your instructor gives the OK, you will create the following Word documents in GDP as a  PRACTICE TEST in preparation for Production Test 1 during the next class meeting.  You will be given one hour’s time in which to complete all three documents.

Test 4-76, page 299 in textbook, Memo

Test 4-77, page 300 in textbook, Letter

Test 4-41, page 301 in textbook, Table

d.     Because the test documents have been created in GDP, click on GDP in the menu bar; click on “Yes” to save changes; “Yes” to score document; and “Yes” to review document.  Because the GDP program checks only text errors, you must check your document formats against the instructor’s key, which will be projected on the screen for you.

e.     If you completed all three documents in acceptable format without typographical errors in one hour’s time, you are ready for Thursday’s test.  If, however, you were not able to complete all three documents without errors, this timed practice test should be repeated outside of class as homework.  Note:  If you miss the test on Thursday, do not delay in rescheduling the test with your instructor as no makeup tests are given after the corrected/graded tests have been returned to the students.

4.       In GDP, do Lesson 81 ABCD and read “e” (if you haven’t already done so).

Thursday, March 15, 2007

1.      Preparation for today:  Practice Test 1 should have been completed on Tuesday.

2.    Today’s assignments:  All students will begin and end the test at the same time--NO EXCEPTIONS.  Arriving late for the test means that you will have less time to complete the test.

a.     12:50 p.m.-1:50 p.m.—Take Production Test 1 in MS Word.  (Do not take the test in GDP.)  Save each file on the test disk provided, but DO NOT print your test documents.

b.     1:55 p.m.-3:00 p.m.—Begin Formal Report 81-58, the first 1 ½ pages of a formal report.  Key as much of the report as possible; print page 1 only (since page 2 is not a complete page).  The remainder of page 2 and a new page 3 will be done during the next class meeting. Read and following these guidelines in formatting page 1  before you begin to type:

Review Business Style Report format on pages R-8A and R-8B.  Pay particular attention to the formatting and spacing of footnotes (see also Lesson 41 of WP Manual, “Footnotes”), the spacing of tables within the body of the report, the left/right indention of long quotations (see also Lesson 30 of WP Manual, “Double Indent”), and the spacing of the numbered paragraphs (which also applies to bulleted paragraphs) in R‑8A.

Note in R-8A that when numbered or bulleted paragraphs contain lines that are one line or shorter, there is single spacing between the items.

·       Xxx xxxx xxx xxx xxxxxxx xxxxx xxxxx.

·       Xxxxx xx xxxxxx xxxx xxxxxx.

·       Xxx xxx xxxx xxxx.

If any one of the numbered or bulleted paragraphs in the list is more than one line long (as shown on page 318 of your textbook), there should be double spacing between the items  (but the numbered or bulleted item itself should be single spaced), as follows:

·       Xxx xxxx xxx xxx xxxxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxxx.

·       Xxxxx xx xxxxxx xxxx xxxxxx xxx xxxx xxxx xxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxx.

·       Xxx xxx xxxx xxxx xxxxxxx xx x x x xxxxxx.

Apply the above guidelines not only to this report but also to all numbered and bulleted paragraphs in all word processing assignments  for this course.

c.    Place the proofread printout of page 1 of Report 81-59 in your folder. Click on “Portfolio” in GDP to print a report of only Lessons 80 and 81 (this week’s skill building).  Place these printouts in your folder and submit them for grading.  Note:  Any skill building lessons in GDP not completed yet (Lessons 64-81) should be made up this weekend.  These exercises to improve your speed and accuracy are most effective when done over the entire semester and not crammed in during the last few weeks of the semester.  Please note that your grade will be lowered at the end of the semester for any skill building lessons not completed.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!
