Hello Students,
My
name is Charlene Morimoto. (I'm the one in black; the blonde is "Hope," our
family Labrador). I will be your "online professor" for CAOT 84, Word 2007 Online,
which will be offered during the fall semester beginning
August 31, 2009. Word 2007 is the word processing
component of the MS Office Suite and is the most popular
word processing software in the country.
In CAOT 84 Online, you will learn the
basic and intermediate level features of MS Word 2007 to
create business letters, tables, reports and
newsletters (including headers and footers,
footnote and endnotes, indented formats, graphics and
charts, and desktop publishing elements), online forms,
and pleadings and other specialized
business documents. If you have the MS Word 2007 program,
you can take this course using your own computer at
home; otherwise, you may use a networked computer in one
of our CAOT Labs on the second floor of Da Vinci Hall at Los Angeles City
College. The
CAOT lab schedule for the semester should be available
during the second week of the semester.
All
enrolled students and students wishing to add this
course should attend the following
orientation meeting:
5-7 p.m.--Thursday,
September 10, 2009, Da Vinci Hall Room 202
Students
who do not attend will be dropped as attendance is mandatory, not optional.
The information shared with you at this meeting will
assure that we are all "on the same page" so that the
course will be maximally beneficial for us
all.
Begin your online class journey
by completing these five steps:
1.
Click the Course Outline button at the top of this page for
general course information including the name of the textbook
and needed supplies. Purchase the textbook immediately,
using the ISBN number shown in the Course Outline (assures
you are purchasing the correct textbook), as well as a USB
flash drive or disks.
2.
After you have
enrolled, click
here
(or on the "Student Questionnaire" link at the top of this page)
and fill out the Student Questionnaire. Submitting this questionnaire serves
as your self-introduction and notification to me that you
are enrolled and provides me with your email address so that
I may contact you.
3.
Next, click on the "FAQs" link at the top of this
page. Read all the information carefully,
especially on the Etudes-NG (Easy
to
Use Distance Education
Software-New
Generation) course management platform and
the section entitled "How do I get started?" If
you are new to Etudes-NG and have never used it before, be
sure to view the Etudes-NG Tour (the link is on the FAQs
page as well as to the left of my photo at the top of this
page).
4.
Send me an
email
at
morimocs@lacitycollege.edu
apprising me of the fact that you have completed the
Student Questionnaire and the above steps and will attend
the orientation meeting. Be sure to include "CAOT 84
Online" in your email "Subject" line as I teach
more than one online course during the semester.
If this course is "closed" and you wish to add, contact
David Coleman, David Janvelyan, or Linda Motonaga
(instructional assistants in the Business/CAOT Department)
at 323 953-4000 for a signed Add Permit. Be sure to submit
it to Admissions by Tuesday, September 8, as a
two-day processing period is required before your name appears
in Etudes-NG. All students are expected to access
the CAOT 84 Online course site in Etudes-NG and have their
textbooks by the orientation date.
5.
During the first week of the semester, read the Preface in
your textbook beginning on page ix up to Chapter 1.
Then read Chapter 1 (page WD 2-WD 4) and do the numbered
steps beginning on page WD 5 through page WD 21. Be sure to
save your project file on a flash drive (as instructed on
page WD 21) or a disk and bring it to the orientation
meeting.
I look
forward to meeting you on September 10!
