Hello Students,
My name is Charlene Morimoto. (I'm the one in black; the
blonde is "Hope," our family Labrador). I will be your
"online professor" for CAOT 84, Word 2010 Online, which
will be offered during the winter intersession that
begins January 3, 2012. Word 2010 is the word processing
component of the MS Office Suite and is the most popular
word processing software in the country.
In CAOT 84 Online, you will learn the basic and intermediate
level features of MS Word 2010 to create business letters,
tables, reports, newsletters, and flyers (including headers
and footers, footnote and endnotes, indented formats,
graphics and charts, and desktop publishing elements),
online forms, and pleadings and other specialized business
documents. If you have the MS Word 2010 program, you can
take this course using your own computer at home; otherwise,
you may use a networked computer in one of our CAOT Labs on
the second floor of Da Vinci Hall (not yet determined
whether the Da Vinci Hall labs will be available during
Winter Intersession)and on selected computers
in the Library at Los Angeles City College. The CAOT lab
schedule is normally posted on the doors to DH 202, 203, 204,
or 205 on the Second Floor of Da Vinci Hall during the
second week of each semester.
All enrolled students and students wishing to add this
course should attend the following orientation meeting:
6-8 p.m.--Tuesday, January 3, 2012, Da Vinci Hall Room 204
Please plan to attend the above orientation meeting, as the
information shared with you at this meeting will assure that
we are all "on the same page" so that the course will be
maximally beneficial for us all. Attending could save you
a great deal of frustration and time in getting started in
this course.
Begin your online class journey by completing these five
steps:
1. Click the Course Outline button at the top of this
page for general course information including the name of
the textbook and needed supplies. Purchase the textbook
immediately, using the ISBN number shown in the Course
Outline (assures you are purchasing the correct textbook),
as well as a USB flash drive.
2. Next, click on the "FAQs" link at the top of this
page. Read all the information carefully, especially
on the Etudes-NG (Easy to Use Distance
Education Software-New Generation)
course management platform and the section
entitled "How do I get started?" If you are
new to Etudes-NG and have never used it before, be sure to
view the Etudes-NG Tours located on the Etudes-NG "gateway" (the link is
on the FAQs page as well as to the left of the photo at the
top of this page).
3.
Send your instructor an
email
at
morimocs@lacitycollege.edu
to confirm your current email address and your attendance at
the orientation meeting. Always include "CAOT 84
Online"
in your email "Subject"
line as I teach
more than one online course during the semester.
4. If this course is "closed" and you wish to add, email the
instructor no later than January 2, 2012, with your full
name and Student ID number and plan to attend the
orientation meeting. Add permits will not be issued after
that date.
All students are expected to access the CAOT 84 Online
course site in Etudes-NG and have their textbooks by the
orientation date and follow the instructions in Paragraph 5
below. This will be a fast-paced course since the winter
intersession is just five-weeks long.
5. Before we meet for our orientation meeting on January 3,
read and follow the step-by-step instructions in the chapter
entitled "Office 2010 and Windows 7: Essential Concepts and
Skills" (beginning on page OFF 2). Doing so will enable you
to prepare your computer so that your Word 2010 Document
Window will closely match the illustrations in the textbook
chapters. Next read and do as instructed on pages WD 2-WD12,
naming and saving your file to a USB drive as instructed on
page WD 12. Bring your saved file to the Orientation
Meeting.
I look forward to meeting you on January 3!
