Work on T3WS, Case Problem 2

Homework

E-mail assignments with this e-mail icon to me no later than Sunday at noon unless otherwise announced. No assignments are accepted late. In all e-mail messages, the subject line should be Your Name, last 4 numbers of your student ID, project ID.

FinalHP (Final Home Page), 10 points:

Visit the Final Exam page to review a list of the FrontPage features I will be requiring you to include on your Final Web site and to see examples of other students' Final Planning Analysis Sheet (PAS) and Web sites. Remember—your Final Web site does NOT have to be complicated to earn an A. In fact, I strongly encourage you to KISS it—Keep It Simple, Silly!

  • Open Lollipop Creations as a guide. It is a small Web site with a FrontPage discussion group added as extra credit. I have typed in directions and screen shots to explain how to create each page. This simple Web site would easily earn an A.
  • Also open Yuko Kondo's Web site and Yuko Kondo's PAS page as a guide. She did a lot of extra credit work.
  • Create a Web site and a home page for your Final Web site at http://ca112.lacitycollege.edu/ca112axx/Final. Replace xx with your directory number.
  • Create a Final page in your Final Web site.
  • Go to our Final page, click in front of the first horizontal line above the the bulleted list of required items, hold down the Shift key, scroll down and click at the end of the table of items. Copy and paste this into your Final page.
  • Edit the dates at the bottom of the extra credit section. (These were created with the variable feature and they won't paste correctly outside of the 112 Web site.)
  • Save the page and place all pictures into the Images folder.
  • Download Pas to the Windows Desktop and then import it into your Final Web site so you can start to work on it. I will not grade the PAS for three more weeks, but I need to approve your topic this week. Click here for guidelines as to what constitutes an appropriate topic.
  • Open Pas and type your user name and password when prompted. Then complete only the Heading and Objective section with information for your Web site. The third objective where you list the information will become an "outline" of sorts for the content of each main pages in your Web site. See Yuko's below as a guide:

  • Complete the PAS References section by searching for and finding 5 other Web sites with similar goals, products, or services. These Web sites will serve as inspiration for the content and design of your own. See the References section below as a guide. Here is a neat site that might inspire ideas for a Web site about an interesting person: http://www.cinepad.com/busterk.htm

  • Start creating the content for your home page by copying and pasting the three bulleted items from the Objective section as unformatted text into the home page. Your home page will change dramatically by the time you finish, but this is a starting point. I will approve (or disapprove) your topic based on this list. Click here for guidelines as to what constitutes and appropriate topic.
  • Change the title (not the file name) of the home page to the name of your Web site. For example, Yuko Kondo's home page is titled Little Tokyo in Los Angeles. The Lollipop Creations home page is titled Welcome to Lollipop Creations.

When the home page and Final page of your Final Web site are ready for viewing, send three URLs in an e-mail message. The subject line should be Your Name, last 4 digits of student ID, FinalHP. The URLs should point to the following locations (xx represents your directory number):

T3WS, 47 points: Case Problem 2. On p. 187, read the introductory paragraphs only and then follow the steps listed below rather than those in your book.

When you received your grade for T2WS, you should have saved that e-mail message. Open it now and use it as a checklist to be sure that you have made all corrections on the list. I will DEDUCT POINTS AGAIN for any errors you leave uncorrected from the previous tutorial. I will DEDUCT MORE POINTS if you do not paste in my e-mail message showing your previous your grade! When I am forced to look up your grade for you, my valuable time is wasted because you haven't done your job—please cooperate on this. You'll be glad you did.

When you are finished, your pages should have the information arranged and formatted exactly like these screen shots. I check for typos, formatting errors, and attention to detail; so examine your home page carefully.

index.htm jobs.htm

Step 1: Open the grill Web at http://ca112.lacitycollege.edu/ca112axx/grill.

Step 2: Open jobs.htm in Design view and review its contents.

Step 3: At the top of jobs.htm just under the opening paragraph, select "Managers" and "Staff Associates") and format these two lines as a bulleted list. Change the bullet character to the bullet.gif picture. Save the page and save the picture in the Images folder.

Step 4: Change the five paragraphs below the paragraph that begins "Garden Grill's managers are outstanding . . ." to a bulleted list with the bullet.gif picture. If bullet.gif is not in your images folder, go to the Tutorial.03, Grill, Images folder and import it.

Step 5: Change the six paragraphs below the paragraph that begins "Garden Grill is one of the most . . ." to a bulleted list with the bullet.gif picture.

Step 6: Create a bookmark for each heading in the page (the bold "Managers" and "Staff Associates" text) using a lowercase name of your choice that does not contain spaces or exceed eight characters. Then create a hyperlink from each item in the first bulleted list to its corresponding bookmark.

Step 7: Create a bookmark named top to the left of the picture link bar at the top of the page.

Step 8: Select the two paragraphs beginning with the bold "Managers" heading and ending with the paragraph that ends "the following qualifications:" and apply the defined term style. Select the paragraph below the Managers heading that ends with "the following qualifications:" and apply the Definition style.

Step 9: Select the 5 lines below the Indent the bulleted list below the paragraph that ends with "the following qualifications:" and format the 5 lines as a bulleted list with the bullet.gif picture for the bullet. Select the bulleted list and then use the Increase Indent toolbar button to increase the indent on the bulleted list.

Troubleshooting spacing on a list. I had trouble getting the numbered list in this step to single space. It looks single spaced in Page View in FrontPage, but when you preview it in the browser, it appears double spaced. To fix extra spacing in a list (with or without nests) courtesy of Seol-Ah Park, F06 class: First, type an unformatted list. Then select the unformatted list, Format, Bullets and Numbering, Specify picture, Browse, click the desired picture, Open; in the Picture Bullets tab, click Style; in the Modify Style window, click Format, Paragraph; in the Paragraph window, Spacing Before—type 0, Spacing After—type 0, OK, OK, OK. In design view select the items to be nested, click Increase Indent twice, then click the Numbering button--voila!!

Step 10: Select the two paragraphs beginning with the bold "Staff Associate" heading and ending with the paragraph that ends "at a Garden Grill location near you:" and apply the defined term style. Select the paragraph below the Staff Associate heading that ends with "at a Garden Grill location near you:" and apply the Definition style. Select the bulleted list and then use the Increase Indent toolbar button to increase the indent on the bulleted list.

Step 11: Create a new paragraph below the last bulleted list, and then decrease the paragraph's indentation to zero. (Hint: Click at the end of the "Bartenders" item in the list, press Enter twice to end the bulleted list and create a new paragraph, and then use the Decrease Indent toolbar button to change the new paragraph so it is not indented.)

Step 12: In the new paragraph you created in step 11, create a "Top of Page" hyperlink using the top bookmark as its target.

Step 13: Create a "Top of Page" hyperlink to the top bookmark below the bulleted list that appears below the "Managers" heading. Save jobs.htm.

Step 14: Add a task associated with the Job Opportunities page with the Task name New jobs with the description When the new staff associate positions have been created, add them to this page. Assign the task to yourself, and assign it a high priority. When you are done, paste a print screen of the Tasks view into homework.htm where you have been saving screen shots of your practice tests.

Step 15: Preview the home page in the browser and test the hyperlinks between pages and the hyperlinks to bookmarks. (Note: You will add content to menu.htm, fran.htm, feedback.htm, and search.htm in another tutorial.)

Step 16: In a new paragraph at the bottom of jobs.htm, use the Insert Comment feature to add a comment that you can see in Design view with the following content: "This page last updated by [Your Name]." (Type your own name.) Save jobs.htm. Paste a print screen of the jobs.htm page in Design view with the comment visible into homework.htm where you have been saving screen shots of your practice tests.

Step 17: Save your Web and press F5 to refresh the Folder List view before beginning this step to insure that your folders and files are accurately displayed. In Folder List view, expand the Images folder so that I can see the filenames of all files stored here. Drag the right edge of the Folder List bar so that the entire Web site URL is displayed. Paste a print screen of this page into homework.htm where you have been saving screen shots of your practice tests. Your Web should be organized as shown here. Your Images file names may be different.

Step 18. When you are finished with all steps for grill, open grill in Internet Explorer. Click inside the Address box and press Ctrl-C to copy the URL to grill. Open your e-mail client and paste the URL into the body of the message. You should see a hyperlink to your Web site appear. The e-mail subject line should be Your Name, last 4 digits of your student ID, T3WS.

Step 19. Next, open homework.htm in Internet Explorer by clicking the Preview button. Click inside the Address box and press Ctrl-C to copy the URL to homework.htm. Paste the URL into the body of the message on a new line below the grill URL. You should see a hyperlink to homework.htm page appear.

When you receive your grade for T3WS, correct all errors as noted in my e-mail to you before you continue this case in Tutorial 4.  Any errors that are not corrected will result in another deduction in T4WS. Reply to my e-mail with the list of corrections as soon as you have fixed all problems. I will make note of it and you are then ready to continue to the next tutorial. I will use the list of corrections as a checklist to be sure you made all changes.
