Install
a standalone Home installation and update it so students can use if
network is down. Change Favorites to go to new
Web sites. We need to install Adobe Acrobat Reader so pdf files can be
displayed. New Favorites--GDP sites, Faculty Rosters,
All labs: The master computers in each room should be checked
for accuracy against the checklist (except the green ones) on the Lab Manual
page. Linda and I will verify that
the master computer in DH 203 and DH 204 are correct before I leave for the semester.
Specifically check/change these settings on the master computer:

Migrate to Office 2003 |
 |
Windows Updates, Messenger, Media Player updates |
 |
Office XP Updates (required Office CD and FrontPage CD) |
 |
Virus updates |

Virus and Windows Updates
-
Assuming Deep Freeze, Windows, and McAfee
settings are correct to allow updates during the maintenance period, is
there anything else to do?
-
Can you do Windows updates and virus
updates remotely for us?
-
Is this a slow time for the LACC network
to handle updates without a problem?
-
To get virus and Windows updates to run,
settings in McAfee and Windows need to be changed to allow updates
during the assigned period. What are the steps for the Windows Update
settings? Do you change any Windows settings on your side? Can this be
done to all computers at once with the imaging process?
-
Are McAfee settings set only from your
side?
-
Does the old Deep Freeze need to be
uninstalled?
Imaging
-
What are the pros and cons of Norton Ghost
vs. Altiris? Altiris worked in the beginning of the semester and then
stopped in some labs. We had to uninstall Altiris and clean the
partition. What is the backup plan if Altiris server is down and we need
to image?
-
We plan to image only when changes in
software or settings are made. Therefore, when we need to image with
Altiris, do we contact you or can David do it independently from our
labs?
-
Can imaging be done simultaneously for all
four rooms at once?
-
Can the classrooms be imaged in a certain
order—in other words, can we start with 203 then go to 205, 202, and
204?
-
How does Altiris handle different
hardware?
-
How do we get the master computer image
from 203 into the other labs?
